These are cases in which an individual has conflicting interests that could influence his or her decision-making in a corrupt way, thereby harming the interests of the University of Bonn. Also concerned are cases of relevance vis-a-vis the University of Bonn Anti-corruption Policy.

Examples of workplace conduct and human rights violations:

Financial and property-related offenses (Vermögensdelikte) →
These are illegal acts of any kind which negatively affect property owned by the University. The following are examples of the type of offenses concerned: theft, embezzlement, fraud, misappropriation of University property.
Illegal deprivation of personal freedoms →
Such cases include coercive acts and blackmail. Examples: coercion of an employee by his/her employer; or one employee coercing another.
Forging documents →
Examples of forgery include:
  • Manipulating documents or financial statements
  • Retroactively altering a delivery note
  • Falsifying certificates or references 
Property damage →
Property damage typically means the damaging/destroying of University property.
Compliance with internal regulations →
Relevant cases concern e.g. violations of the University’s Good Research Practice Policy.
Civil service law →
These concern any breach of obligations under civil service law, such as:
  • Civil servants making statements in violation of their duty to uphold the constitution
  • Unauthorized outside employment/offices/activities
  • Failure to report income from outside employment
  • Breach of confidentiality obligations
Data protection/privacy →
Cases involving breach of data protection/privacy laws and/or regulations for the protection of personal data. These include in particular cases of unlawful disclosure of company and business secrets, improper use of data and inadequate protection measures regulating the accessibility of sensitive data.
Environmental protection →
Environmental protection issues include for example illegal waste dumping, improper handling of harmful substances and water, soil and air pollution.
